Jason Stein is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Functional Medicine practitioner that has helped thousands of clients achieve greater health over the last 20 years. Jason and his wife, Beth Herzig, co-founded Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture in 2002 in Portland, Maine.

Jason graduated from Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2002 with a Masters in Acupuncture degree. He has also completed Adapt Practitioner Training for Functional Medicine with Chris Kresser Institute in 2017, and recently finished Functional Medicine training with the Functional Nutritional Alliance under Andrea Nakayama in 2019. He is licensed in the state of Maine and nationally throughout the NCCAOM, he is certified by NADA (National Association of Detox Acupuncture). He was featured in Maine Magazine in 2013 for his work and success using Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Jason is passionate about combining the tools of Traditional Chinese Medicine which is over 5000 years old, with modern day testing, diagnosis and treatment of Functional Medicine. It is the union of these two medical approaches, that allows Jason to look deeper into the origins the imbalances that people experience. His goal is to treat the root of the problem, providing sustainable results, versus suppressing the symptoms. At the core of holistic medicine is the concept that everyone has different strengths and vulnerabilities. Jason focuses on treating the person over the diagnosis or symptom.

Jason is a caring and compassionate provider who places value on the relationships he has with his clients. He is both serious about the work he does, and also lighthearted and is always cracking a sarcastic joke. He loves laughing and sharing stories with his clients and prescribes to the old concept of the family doctor who really gets to know each patient and appreciates this kind of connection.

Outside of a busy medical practice, Jason’s favorite activity in the world is camping or hiking with his family. He is happiest when he is above tree line and finds that being in nature is the greatest exhale.
