Course Overview

In the first part of this talk, practitioners will learn to understand the diagnosis of autism and ADD/ADHD. We will review the requirements for a diagnosis of these conditions from a Western medical perspective. We will then review how to understand the diagnosis from the perspective of Chinese medicine. Practitioners will also learn how to approach and treat these children with both acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas.

Then, ADD/ADHD will be examined in more detail; with the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD and autism becoming a very common occurrence, many practitioners are seeing an increase in the number of parents looking for alternatives for their children. Acupuncture and herbs have proven very effective in managing both autism and ADD/ADHD; therefore, acupuncturists and herbalists are uniquely poised to provide specialized treatments and advice that parents cannot obtain anywhere else. We will dive deeper into the Chinese medical understanding of ADD/ADHD and autism and further refine 5-element types and pattern diagnosis. Treatment protocols for both acupuncture and herbal interventions will be shared for the most common problems areas. Practitioners will leave feeling confident in treatments including dietary advice, acupuncture points, and herbal formulas.
