Course Overview
This course covers the physiology of sensory integration in the central nervous system as it related to traumatic neck injuries. We will discuss functional examination of the neck and related sensory systems, balance testing, and research on the importance of neck strength for concussion prevention. We will cover the treatment of traumatic neck injuries using acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and topical applications, Tai Chi, kinesiotaping, and cervical proprioceptive retraining. Case studies will be presented that highlight the use of neurological testing and treatment strategies.

1) The physiology of sensory integration of the head and neck within the central nervous system
2) Neck strength and concussion prevention and outcomes
3) The overlap of symptoms from both concussions and traumatic neck injuries
4) The connection between neck injuries, balance, and dizziness
5) Methods for testing balance
6) Functional examination of the neck and other sensory and motor systems

10) Neurological rehabilitation through Tai Chi
