Deconstructing Point Combinations

Better understand the dynamics of Saam acupuncture point combinations, and recombine the in your clinical practice to fine tune your treatments to the patient’s unique condition.

Course Overview

In this level three course we take apart point combinations and learn to recombine them so as to treat more than one channel at the same time. We go further into draining methods and discuss treatments that simultaneously tonify one channel, while adding partial draining to another. We also investigate the use of Du and Ren.

 

This course requires a solid understanding of the Saam fundamentals and at least a year of clinical practice. It is for those who have already taken the Introduction to Saam and Advanced Case Studies class.

  • Evaluate and explore the use of deconstructing point combinations in the Saam tradition.

  • Identify advantageous clinical situations for modifying point combinations.

  • Identify advantageous clinical situations for using Ren and Du Mai points.

  • Critically evaluate case studies presented by the instructor.

  • Understand fundamental Saam tradition principles through student presented case studies.

Outline

  • 0 hrs - 1.5 hrs

    Introduction and exploration of deconstructing point combinations in the Saam tradition.

  • 1.5 hrs - 3.5 hrs

    Identify advantageous clinical situation for modifying point combinations.

  • 3.5 hrs - 5.5 hrs

    Identify advantageous clinical situations for utilizing the Ren and Du Mai points.

  • 5.5 hrs - 6.5 hrs

    Critically evaluate case studies presented by the instructor.

  • 6.5 hrs - 8 hrs

    Understand fundamental Saam tradition principles through student presented cases studies - NO.1.

  • 8 hrs - 9 hrs

    Understand fundamental Saam tradition principles through student presented cases studies - NO. 2.

  • 9 hrs - 11 hrs

    Critically evaluate case studies presented by the instructor (both).

  • 11 hrs - 12 hrs

    Questions and answers, effectively implementing the Saam tradition in your clinical practice, conclusion.

Toby began studying Chinese medicine in 1997 with a Korean monk trained in the Saam tradition. In 2016, he completed a PhD in Classical Chinese Medicine under the guidance of Daoist priest Jeffery Yuen. His current focus is on sharing his clinical experience with the Saam tradition.
