Course Overview
As long as 3500 years ago, legend has it an elephant (one of the largest, most "earthy" animals on the planet) was treated with acupuncture for a condition similar to bloat. Elephants are sacred in many societies; in Western society, our four legged dogs and cats might be considered our sacred animals.
Course 4 of this five part series focuses on the Earth Element and the Stomach and Spleen meridians: key organs of digestion.
"Earth is special among all the elements; she is the source of all of them, the centre from which they arise. Each of the elements is in constant relationship with her, coming to life and dying within her realm. Earth is both womb and tomb.”
"The Earthing" is a documentary that reveals the scientific phenomenon of healing through contact with the earth. It suggests that we heal our bodies by standing barefoot on the earth. Here we make contact with Spleen 1 and Stomach 45 on the toes, (Earth) Liver 1, on the great toe, Gall bladder 44 on the 4th toe, (Wood) and Bladder 67 on the baby toe (Water). Dogs make contact on all fours with all the acupoints on the hands and feet.
Shiatsu, a form of Japanese massage, and often called "needleless acupuncture," is rooted in traditional Chinese Medicine, and based on the flow of "Qi" or life force that follows pathways of energy called Meridians. When blocked we may experience pain, discomfort; and/or comprised movement.

1 hrs - 1.5 hrs
The importance of support, in the form of family, a safe home, as well as dogs, grounding and love, are all key components of a healthy Earth Element. A grounding meditation and visualization exercise, called the Microcosmic Orbit is included.

The Hara, where we house our gut reactions, along with touch, is the focus of much of course 4. Touching the human and canine Hara, on or off the body, helps to heal the whole person and our dog companions. A map of the Hara areas is included.
