Headaches constitute one of the most common patient complaints as about 70% of people have experienced headaches and about 15-20% suffer regularly from migraines. Although acupuncture has been proven one of the best therapy methods, still the Chinese diagnosis and treatment remains at times a dilemma for the practitioner, as it involves, quite frequently a combination of patterns.

Objectives

  • The energetics of the head: overview of channels; head and neck points.

  • Physio-pathology and diagnosis of headaches.

  • Treatment principles.

  • External headaches: classification, diagnosis and treatment.

  • Internal headaches: classification, diagnosis and treatment.

Outline

  • 0 hrs - 30 min

    Head and Neck Energetics: channels (Primary, Sinew, Luo & Divergent); Windows of Heaven; Extraordinary vessels

  • 30 min - 45 min

    Diagnosis: analysis of pain

  • 45 min - 1 hrs

    External Headaches: physiopathology and diagnosis

  • 1 hrs - 1.5 hrs

    Internal Headaches: classification: Wood patterns (physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment)

  • 1.5 hrs - 1.75 hrs

    Internal Headaches: Water patterns (physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment)

  • 1.75 hrs - 2.25 hrs

    Internal Headaches: Earth & Metal patterns (physiopathology, diagnosis and treatment)

  • 2.25 hrs - 2.5 hrs

    Internal Headaches: Blood stasis; Extraordinary vessels

  • 2.5 hrs - 2.75 hrs

    Treatment strategies; Auriculotherapy

  • 2.75 hrs - 3.25 hrs

    Overview of head and neck points: local "Barrier" points; Window of Heaven points

Hamid Montakab

Hamid Montakab graduated from the Medical School of Paris, completed an education in acupuncture in France and in China. He practiced in the US and later founded the Academy of Chinese Healing Arts in Switzerland and was co-founder and president of the Swiss Professional Organization for TCM.
