Mobility Vs. Motor Control

An 8 Principles Perspective on Sports Medicine Injuries

We all know that excess can be casued by deficiency, there is yin within yang, etc. This same phenemon occurs in the sports medicine realm. Not all "tightness" is caused by a lack of mobility.

Course Overview

As acupuncturists, we're well versed in the idea that patient complaints can present one way while being rooted in a different, and often opposite, pattern of disharmony. Local stagnation of qi and blood, presenting as excess, can originate from qi and blood deficiency within the channel.

While the mental framework is there, we are lacking reliable assessment tools from TCM to identify the true nature of many orthopedic and sports medicine injuries.

Simply put, not all “tightness” is due to tightness. More specifically, a patient experiencing tightness can be caused by a true lack of mobility or from a lack of motor control within the system. We need additional assessments to differentiate these patterns of disharmony because they require different interventions to correct the imbalances.

In this course, Derrick McBride will define the differences between dysfunctions from a lack of mobility and a lack of motor control. You will be given assessment tools to identify the differences between the two using specific examples of functional assessments to illustrate the bigger principles needed to spot the true nature of the dysfunctions. Ways to address mobility and motor control dysfunctions will be covered to ensure you have a cohesive approach to the assessment and treatment.

If you've found yourself repeated releasing "tight" muscles only to have them come back, then this course is the first step to understand why that might be!
