Course Overview
The world of orthopedic assessment can be overwhelming to those attempting to memorize every test for every body region for every condition. While it is important to have a robust knowledge of tests you feel comfortable implementing in the clinic, there are ways to help broadly understand the underlying concepts of orthopedic and muscle testing.
The instructor, Derrick McBride, has organized tests from the entire body into 3 types of tests that can be easily digested and applied to many conditions all over the body. These types of tests include Compression Based Orthopedic Tests, Tension Based Orthopedic Tests, and Force Based Muscle Tests.
In this course, Tension Based Orthopedic Tests, Derrick McBride presents the global concept of applying tension to anatomical tissues for the diagnosis of orthopedic injuries and local stagnation patterns. Specific examples will be used to show the versatility of the concept presented.
Some examples of tests include:
(1) Ligamentous injuries
(2) Range of motion and soft tissue length
(3) Joint structures
At the end of the course, the students will feel comfortable with multiple ways of applying tensile forces to anatomical tissues for more specific diagnoses of local stagnation patterns. This is a skill set you don't want to miss out on!
Objectives
-
Understand the principle of applying tensile forces to anatomical tissues for diagnosis of local stagnation.
-
Understand multiple ways of applying tensile force for the different types of anatomical tissues.
-
Be able to utilize specific examples in the clinic right way.
-
Be able to apply the broader concept to other areas that aren't specifically shown.
Outline
0 hrs - 30 min
The first section is an introduction to applying tensile forces and when to use them.
30 min - 1 hrs
Next, we will cover different ways of applying tensile forces depending on the type of anatomy and location of the tissues being targeted.
1 hrs - 2 hrs
Specific examples of easy to implement tension based orthopedic tests will be covered. The student will obtain a library of simple tests that cover multiple parts of the body.
2 hrs - 2.5 hrs
Specific examples of tension based range of motion testing to soft tissue will be covered. The student will obtain a library of these tests that cover multiple parts of the body.
2.5 hrs - 3 hrs
To put into context the use of tension based tests, compression and force based tests are introduced.
