Course Overview
The work of a truly wholistic practitioner is to address the needs of patients at all levels. The majority of patients, aside from their physical symptoms, are often also imbalanced at the levels of mind and Spirit. Every acupuncture point has a name, translated from the ancient Chinese characters, which suggests the mental and Spiritual connotations of the point. This knowledge is essential to reach the mental and Spiritual needs of patients.
This course is an in-depth exploration into the Water element and its Officials (organs) with Professor Neil R. Gumenick.
It begins with an introduction of how we can determine if points used for their Spiritual connotations are truly needed by the patient before us. This is essential in determining proper treatment strategy - whether simple balancing of the patient's energy with more simple and gentle treatments (such as with Command points and transfers of energy) is appropriate, or whether stronger points, including those used for their Spiritual connotations, are needed. The Water element contains some of the most profound Spirit points on the whole of the body, some of which can be successfully conjoined with treatment on any element to provide a truly wholistic treatment, addressing the needs of the body, mind, and Spirit. The session continues with descriptions of the Water element as a whole, the diagnostics of odor, color, sound, and emotion, the functions of the two Water Officials (organs), particularly as they manifest at the mental and Spirit levels, and in-depth descriptions of the Spirits, meanings, and uses of selected points on each meridian: Urinary Bladder and Kidney.
