As Acupuncturists' services are more and more frequently being integrated into mainstream medical treatment facilities, many practitioners have a serious need to understand more Western medical terminology, physical examination procedures, and diagnostic parameters. This course is one of four programs in this Basics of Western Medicine for Acupuncturists Series. Courses included in this series are: Neurology for the TCM Practitioner, Infectious Diseases, Musculoskeletal Diseases and Women's Health: Obstetrics, Gynecology, Breast Disease and Infertility. These courses are designed to teach acupuncture practitioners the basics of Western medicine and ""medispeak"" for each of these specialties.

(4) Motor exam, DTR's sensory, and gait

(6) When to refer the patient

(7) Diagnostic tests

(9) Disease and strokes

(10) Dizziness and vertigo

(11) Parkinson's disease

(12) Demential states

(13) Neuromuscular disorders

(14) Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

(15) Neurological complications of alcohol abuse

(16) Behavorial neurology

(17) Sleep disorders

(18) Seizures, epilepsy

Objectives

  • Participants will understand the anatomy and physiology of the brain and nervous system, The neurological exam: mental status, Cranial nerve exams

  • Participants will understand motor exam, DTR's sensory, and gait

  • Participants will understand neurological symptoms

  • Participants will understand when to refer the patient

  • Participants will understand diagnositc tests

  • Participants will understand headaches, Cerebrovascular Disease and strokes, Dizziness and vertigo

  • Participants will understand parkinson's disease

  • Participants will understand demential states

  • Participants will understand neuromuscular disorders, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

  • Participants will understand neurological complications of alcohol abuse, Behavorial neurology

  • Participants will understand sleep disorders, Seizures and epilepsy

Graduating with honors from the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Dr. Bruce Robinson completed another five years of post-graduate internship and residency at the university and a research fellowship at St. Barholomew’s Medical College in London.
