In this course noted sinologist and herbalist Heiner Fruehauf, Ph.D., recounts how he was driven to his research library in the search of a strategy to help a number of puzzling patients who seemed to defy all the normal rules of Chinse herbal medicine. In the end he dove into the literature on Gu Syndrome, an ancient concept that seems to capture the idea of a chronic superparasitic infection similar to Chronic Lyme Disease. In studying some of the core formulas used over the years in the treatment of Gu cases, Heiner was able to tease out a number of new herb categories.
