Maximising the Efficacy of Granules A Clinician’s Guide to Using Granule Extracts

In recent years, granules have become the most popular delivery form for Chinese herbal medicine in the West. However, while the convenience, portability, and efficacy of granules has revolutionised professional herbal medicine, it has been extremely hard for practitioners in the West to obtain any training on important issues such as dosage and granulespecific prescribing styles. This seminar examines several styles of granule usage enabling the practitioner to return to clinic confidently and with several practical methods for prescribing granules.

> How granules are prescribed in Asia
> Practical tips for running an effective granule pharmacy
> Examples of granule formulation strategies for specifie diseases

Day Two
Farm to Pharmacy Understanding the Herbal Supply Chain

This lecture explores current issues with Chinese herbs from the farm to the pharmacy. Herbal quality is influenced by many factors, such as production regions, differences in wild vs. cultivated products, and processing methods. This seminar aims to provide a basic introduction to many of the key issues in herbal pharmacy today, such as:
> Wild-crafted vs. cultivated products
> The concept of "dao di" medicinal materials - medicinal authenticity and the influence of proper growing regions, harvesting methods, and processing methods
> An overview on the various processing methods (pao zhi)
> Challenges in trade, including endangered species and commonly misidentified herbs
